The stainless steel version of the Apple Watch is going to start at $500, a new rumor claims. While that may be expensive for a smartwatch, it's going to be a lot less than what you'll need to pay for the gold variation - between $4,000 and $5,000. $5,000 is also what one analyst believed the most premium variant would go for.
The new details come from a source that has been reliable in the past, accurately reporting the dimensions of both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus before they got official.
Apple has previously announced that its wearable will start at $349, and it looks like that will be the price of the aluminum model. As you can see, the stainless steel one will command a premium over that base level pricing, while the gold option will be priced accordingly considering the material used.
Apparently Apple is still trying to do all it can in order to release the watch by Valentine's Day 2015. Manufacturers and resellers are preparing for it to land in mid-February. We've recently heard from Apple Retail SVP Angela Ahrendts that the Apple Watch will be out in "Spring 2015", so that's clearly the backup plan here, in case the February time frame isn't met.
